Holiday Decorating Tips for 2018
Take Back Your Garage!
Today, we’re talking about the best organizers you can use for any garage but especially for a small garage.
How would you like to pull into your garage and be able to retrieve packages from the trunk or back seat and not have to walk sideways to get to the door of the house? Been there…done that!
Well, it can all happen if you just designate one weekend – maybe even one day – to getting out there and make it happen!
Do you need to declutter?
First things first, of course. If you’ve got a garage full of clutter the first thing you need to do is sort it all out.
First, sort everything into three piles:
Bar Carts – A Classy Idea for Home Decor
We’ve discussed the importance of multi-purpose furnishings for small spaces. There are multitudes of multi-purpose pieces but one of the hottest is the bar cart!
Bar carts/serving carts are perfect for almost every room in your home.
Obviously, the bar cart is meant to be..well, a bar cart!
It’ll add a classy touch to your dining or living area. Terrific when you’re entertaining. It’s super easy to move wherever the party is happening.
Even better, it’s excellent storage…especially if cupboard space is lacking.
Here are eight excellent ways to use a bar cart in your home.
What is Wabi-Sabi?
Wabi-sabi is a Japanese decorating trend that’s hugely popular, right now. It celebrates imperfection, authenticity, and a lived-in feeling.
It’s not to be confused with the Danish design philosophy of
Hygge (pronounced Hoo-gah) which is all about coziness…warm blankets, comfort food, things like that.
And it’s not to be confused with the Swedish philosophy of
Lagom (pronounced Lar-gom) which is all about minimalism.
Storage Space Saver #1 – Power Air Fryer
This is the first in a series of space-saving appliances and gadgets that I’ll be trying from time to time.)
I have a new favorite small appliance. It’s my new (An affiliate link) Power Air Fryer!
Here’s the scoop. I was visiting my daughter and her family this past July and they had one of these Power Air Fryers.
Mostly, they prepared frozen fast food items…French fries, Tater Tots, egg rolls…you get the idea.
It was fast and kept the kitchen cool. No oven required. The kids loved it. Even nine-year-old Kate mastered this appliance. They could have a hot snack at the drop of a hat. I was impressed!
Great for snacks but…

Space Savers for Small Kitchens

There are all kinds of space saving
utensils, gadgets, pots & pans, tools, etc. to save space in kitchens. These suggestions are my favorites.
If the gadgets or tools
you use in your small kitchen are multipurpose, that’s a bonus.
For example, my
cast iron skillets…I love them. I actually have three different sizes. They’re perfect for the stovetop because the heat is conducted evenly throughout the skillet. Plus, they’re easily moved into the oven.
The Benefits of Live Plants
Indoors or out, plants are healthy and beautiful additions to all homes but especially small spaces.
Well, the health benefits are probably the biggest reasons. Plants can purify the air, increase humidity, release oxygen, and reduce levels of carbon dioxide.
Personally, just having live plants in my home makes me happy and relaxed. You’ve all heard that talking to plants is good for them. Well, I believe that.
Did you know…?
Pretty convincing, wouldn’t you say?
Plants are a fabulous way to add visual beauty and warmth to a home.
Multi-Purpose Furniture = Smart Storage = Smart Decorating
It’s true! It doesn’t matter one whit what size room you’re furnishing but it’s especially smart when your space is small.
It’s all about Smart Storage
In the living room, bedroom, study…
Small chests make great side tables in the bedroom or living room. A small chest is a good place to store books, magazines, and that remote control that’s forever getting lost.
Place a small chest by your front door, hang a mirror over it, add a small lamp and you’ve created an attractive and useful entryway.
A basket for mail could sit on top.
Mittens, hats, keys, maps, etc. can be stashed in the drawers for use when you need them but out of the way when you don’t.
In the Kitchen…

More and more people are starting businesses and side-hustles or opting to work from home (at least part of the time).
When you live and work in a small space it’s important to be able to concentrate on the tasks at hand without sacrificing comfort.
That means you’ll want a workspace that’s big enough for all the tools you need to accomplish your daily goals, small enough to fit in a small room or corner, and comfortable enough to ensure that you’ll work without feeling cramped.
That’s a tall order! Wall-mounted desks are brilliant space-saving options. If you prefer a standing desk, there are many that can be hung on a wall. I’ve found
4 styles of wall-mounted desks that should be just what you’re looking for.
